Sleepaway Camp 2 & 3 coming from Scream Factory...

So chuffed about this announcement.  I know Sleepaway Camp has a big fan base but I've always felt it's only remembered because of the stunning final shot. On the other hand Sleepaway Camp 2 is an out and out riot from start to finish.

Scream Factory in the US have announced the release of Collectors Editions of both Sleepaway Camp 2 Unhappy Campers & Sleepaway Camp 3 Teenage Wasteland due for release in Summer 2015.

Very pleased that Scream Factory have announced more slashers to there line up. I was begining to think they were moving away from everyone's favourite sub genre.

GO SCREAM FACTORY!  ( jumps in the air and fist pumps)

Don't Go In The House coming...

Hello there, it's been a bit since my last news update. I've been doing silly things like moving house and having inconsistent internet access. Hopefully starting next week Things should get back to normal.

Any way the important news is classic psycho slasher Don't Go In The House has been announced for Blu-ray in Germany. Not seen this one myself but but you can bet I'll track it down once it's available.

To be honest there are SO many classic slashers being released this/next year on BD that I'm starting to find it hard to keep track them all. Check out the updated list of Slashers NOT in my collection yet...

88 Films announce more of The Slasher Classics Collection...

By the power of Grey Skull!!! 88 Films have really pulled out all the stops with this incredibly exciting announcement. Here's a couple of snippets of the full article at Peek-A-Boo Magazine...

'88 Films is proud to announce four worldwide BluRay premieres as part of the SLASHER CLASSICS COLLECTION – each debuting with new HD scans from the original materials approved by the directors themselves'

'Adds James Blower: “It has been a long process in trying to sort out the titles for wave two of our ‘Slasher Classics Collection’. The bar was set high by the first line of films and we really did not want to disappoint. However, we are thrilled that four great movies are now ‘out of the vaults’ and coming back to UK shelves in great-looking editions. It is madness to think that SPLATTER UNIVERSITY, SLAUGHTERHOUSE and SCALPS have not even had a DVD release in Britain yet! And as for HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS… well, who doesn’t want to see Linnea and Michelle in HD?”'

Peek-A-Boo-Magazine

This is spectacular news and I for one am very excited. They are already bringing us Graduation Day, Mother's day and Don't Go In The Woods... Alone! If all goes well with the transfers then 88 Films will be my new favourite Blu-ray company. All the titles are completely new to me. It looks like my patience is about to pay off big time.

Scream Factory SDCC announce...

From my view the biggest slasher movie announcement is

New Years Evil

Plus
Scarecrows
Candyman 2

and some other massive classic non slasher titles. Scream Factory are still the world leader of genre titles. Good on them.

Don't Go In The Woods Blu-ray coming...

Those wonderful people at 88 Films have announced they are preparing the slasher classic Don't Go In The Woods for Blu-ray. Excellent news. It's a pretty notorious film and I can't wait to finally see it.

Not only that but in the same blog they state they are releasing Unhinged on DVD and that 'the forthcoming DVD of Unhinged will mark the launch of 88’s new dedication to slasher cinema – from the golden era of the 1980s.' VERY EXCITING NEWS! The UK really needs a more dedicated label to 80's Slashers and looks like 88 Films are stepping up.

Silent Night Deadly Night 30th Anniversary Edition...

Wow this has popped up out of the blu. (Ha puns~)

Over at Amazon.com a pre-order for the classic slasher Silent Night Deadly Night has appeared. Its for a 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray coming from Anchor Bay in the US.

I'm really hoping the blu includes the Unrated version because it really takes the fun out of the film in its R-rated form. Hopefully even if the unrated footage is not as good quality it's included via seemless branching.

I currently have the UK Arrow DVD which is excellent but a HD version would knock my socks off. Silent Night Deadly Night is absolute classic of the genre. Probably I  my top 10 favourite slashers.

So lets all cross our fingers folks and hope Anchor Bay come through with the unrated cut. Here's the Amazon link

This sounds soooo awesome. I have every film in the collection already bar Halloween 3 Season of the Witch but the inclusion of Halloween 6 The Producers Cut makes this a must have for me. I remember reading it has around 40 minutes of entirely different footage and is near enough a utterly different film. Very excited to say the least. I've wanted to see it for years. Congratulations Anchor Bay and Scream Factory this is very special.

Tourist Trap US & UK Blu-ray missing footage issue...

Quick note. It seems that the recent UK and US Blu-rays of Tourist Trap from 88 Films and Full Moon respectively are missing approximately 5 minutes of footage. Apparently the Blu's are missing full scenes, missing footage from other scenes and some scenes appear in a different order to the original 90 minute version of the film.

88 Films posted the following on the subject on there Facebook page.

'We're aware through the comments on its page that the running time on Tourist Trap has become an issue. We did notice this when we received the master from the US and did raise the issue with Full Moon but ultimately this is the only HD master available and we felt we had to run with it to give the UK fans at least the equivalent of the US blu-ray.

We considered adding in the missing excerpts from the DVD master but that would have created noticeable shifts in image quality and ruined the 5.1 mix. Also this release does include a brand new commentary by David Schmoeller and we're not aware that he had any issues with the master when he was recording that.

We're very sorry if anyone feels their blu-ray is not as good as it should be but hopefully you will feel that the new special features, lossless sound, booklet notes and reversible art will make up for the slightly shorter running time than our previous DVD release.'

For me this is a real shame. I have not seen the original 90 minute version so don't know to what extent this new version alters the experience but needless to say I would have preferred the original cut. There is a release in Japan from Happinet that came out in September last year. I've no idea if this has the original version and I'd appreciate confirmation one way or the other if any of you have it. Please leave a comment if you do.

The Night Before Easter now available for Digital Download...

Ok so this isn't about a Blu-ray but who knows we might get one eventually if we support this bad boy.

Long story in short. I'm a big fan of the Hysteria Continues podcast. They discuss classic slashers with appropriate amount of reverance, affection and amusement. Well two of the fine folk from Hysteria Continues, Joseph Henson and Nathan Johnson have made a low budget slasher through crowdfunding called The Night Before Easter.

As of last The Night Before Easter is available for rental or digital download to keep at Vimeo.

Here's the Facebook announcement

'The Night Before Easter - Now On Demand

https://vimeo.com/ondemand/thenightbeforeeaster

Help support indie horror/starving artists/slasher fans and rent or purchase a digital download of Joseph Henson and Nathan Johnson's first film, The Night Before Easter. Rentals last 72 hours and are $3.99; the digital download (warning: this is a near 8GB file) is $5.99. All revenue collected from rentals/downloads will go to financing a DVD release, paying entry fees for film festivals and financing future projects.

We hope you enjoy the movie despite some of its low-budget constraints as we worked really hard on it and it truly was a labor of love. For a slasher film made with meager pocket change, we think we did alright.

Once you've watched it, we would LOVE some feedback, be it here, through private message, on your own blog/podcast/site or even on the IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3028144/ (if you leave a user comment, please rate the film, too - the higher the rating, the more exposure we will receive, FYI).

Finally, don't forget to share this with everyone you know! We want people to see this movie!

Thank you!
'

I wrote to the Hysteria Continues a while back enquiring about the possibility of a Blu-ray of The Night Before Easter and they said there would not be. However since then in passing on there Facebook page there has been suggestion it's a possibility. So check it out. We might get lucky.

Wow awesome news. It seems like once or twice a year Austria gets some thing a bit special. This time around it's the classic slasher Don't Open Till Christmas in a nifty DVD/BD combo Mediabook, with a choice of two covers.

I might be wrong as I don't speak/read the native tongue but I think it might be limited to 500 per cover, so get in quick. If anyone could confirm that it would be great.

Popcorn coming from Synapse

Ohhh yeah. Looking forward to this,

From Synapse Facebook page:

Quote:

'NEW SYNAPSE FILMS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR BLU/DVD!

Buy A Bag, Go Home In A Box!

Popcorn, the 1991 cult classic starring Jill Schoelen (The Stepfather, Cutting Class), Malcolm Danare (Christine, Heaven Help Us), Dee Wallace (E.T. the Extra-terrestrial, The Frighteners, The Lords of Salem) and Tom Villard (One Crazy Summer, My Girl) is coming to Special Edition Blu-ray and DVD from Synapse Films, Inc in 2014!

This release will give fans a brand-new 2K restoration of the film, taken directly from original vault materials. Supplementary materials from Michael Felsher’s Red Shirt Pictures will round out the exciting package. While the line-up of bonus materials has not yet been finalized, it will feature a retrospective documentary on the making of and legacy of Popcorn along with more extra features currently in the planning stages.

“We are thrilled to be working closely with Kristy Jett and Red Shirt Pictures to bring Popcorn out properly. We now have some amazing materials, including the original camera negative and 35mm Interpositive materials to go through, to make sure this release is the best it can be. We just got a palette of amazing stuff we have to sort through for extras, including never before seen behind-the-scenes photos, documents, vintage interview tapes and even an alternate, never used original movie poster design that I found in the bottom of a random box,” says Donald May, Jr., President of Synapse Films.

Getting Popcorn to this point started very simply with a dedicated fan, Kristy Jett of HorrorHound Magazine, launching a Facebook page with the sole purpose of gaining momentum to encourage a distributor to re-release Popcorn. A year in, she gained the support and guidance of Michael Felsher and within the next year she had secured advocacy from Don May, Jr. and Jerry Chandler of Synapse Films. In late 2013, Synapse Films was able to finally secure the rights to the film, to bring it out properly for the fans.

“Make no mistake, this would not have happened without the support and efforts of Don May, Jr. and Jerry Chandler of Synapse. Other companies inquired over the years but Don and Jerry fought alongside me for the past two years. Without them or Michael Felsher, we would not be here.” –Kristy Jett

More details will be released in the coming months, including the release date (estimated date is Halloween 2014, but this is not confirmed). In the meantime, keep up to date on developments at Popcorn’s Facebook fan page:http://www.facebook.com/popcornmovie'

Satans Blade 30th Anniversay Edition is coming to Blu-ray...

Wow I hadn't even heard of this obscure slasher until internet rummblings of indie label Slasher//Video getting their hands on it for their first foray into Blu-ray. I certainly will be supporting them on this one. It's so obscure every slasher fan should get behind it IMO. Hopefully they will continue to bring us more obscure titles in the future. As far as I'm aware they have teased the Blu-Ray release but it isn't 100% announced yet. But I sure hope it's happening.

2014 is looking like a awesome year for Slasher Blu-Rays. Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Years.
